Jack Wilson Plays Brazilian Mancini was a brilliant take on the mega successful Henry Mancini catalog, done with the sophistication and class that this celebrated pianist and his renowned team of musicians could only perform. The 1965 Vault Records release features the stellar vibes of Roy Ayers throughout the session, which also includes top players like percussionist Chico Batera & bassist Sebastiao Neto both from the Sergio Mendes band, plus a very famous Brazilian guitarist/composer "Tony Brazil" rounding out the quintet with his legendary guitar style.
"Blue Satin" sets the tone for this mellow groove, as both Jack Wilson and Roy Ayers instruments bring out the best of this Mancini classic, followed by other favorites like "Days of Wine and Roses," "Mr. Lucky," "Breakfast at Tiffany's," and a funky upbeat take on "Dear Heart."
The original 1965 LP from Vault Records has been out of print for decades, but to celebrate 60 years of this amazing release, Friday Music is pleased to present for the first time on colored vinyl the super rare Jack Wilson Plays Brazilian Mancini in stellar monophonic sound.
Produced by Jack Lewerke and mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso from the Vault monophonic recordings, this very hip tribute to the sounds of Henry Mancini will also be presented in its long-out-of-print Vault Records LP artwork featuring the cool designs of Rod Dyer and Moira Dyer.
The late Jack Wilson would go on to record more groundbreaking albums for Vault and Blue Note, while also lending his magic touch to other recordings and arrangements for superstars like Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Dinah Washington, Quincy Jones, Julie London, Nancy Wilson and Sarah Vaughan.
