Mastering Engineer (SACD and LP) - Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab

Location: Sebastopol, CA (on-location, not a remote position, some travel required)

Technical and mechanical aptitude, general curiosity for everything pertaining to audio and a passion for high quality audio.

About the Role

The role of Mastering Engineer at MFSL requires skills in many unique and different disciplines. Mastery thereof is crucial to the company’s success. This position will report directly to and train with the Chief Mastering Engineer as well as training with our other Mastering Engineers.

Qualifications

• Ability to or aptitude for hearing subtle differences between audio sources
• Ability or aptitude for working in a variety of audio formats

Optional Skills

• Ability to read schematic diagrams
• Ability to or aptitude for repairing electronics
• Ability to or aptitude for repairing mechanical devices

Responsibilities

• Analog master tape transfers to digital archive
• A/B comparisons from a variety of audio formats
• LP mastering ensuring consistency, precision and clarity
• LP cutting system mechanical maintenance
• Digital Editing in both PCM and DSD audio formats
• Functioning within a team environment
• Optimizing workflow for completing projects within deadlines while maintaining audiophile-level quality standards
• File Management: Maintain organized audio file storage, ensuring proper archiving and backup of all audio assets

MFSL (Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab) is a world renowned audiophile record label that reissues albums of popular music on LP’s and SACD. MFSL is unique in that we employ FT in-house engineers and we source most titles from the original master tapes.
