Give Your Vinyl the Ideal Profile with the Audio Fidelity Improvements Flat.Duo Record Flattener and Relaxer: Accommodates Two LPs at Once, Features Innovative Efficiency and Heat-Pressure Equilibrium
Have uneven, warped, or records that are just not perfectly flat? Fix them in a jiffy with the AFI Flat.Duo record flattener and relaxer. Named for its purpose and duality in function and efficiency, Flat.Duo allows you to smooth your LPs and know that your vinyl is at the profile optimal for the best-possible playback.
Able to accommodate two records at once by way of its integrated fan and innovative heat-press module, Flat.Duo takes just under two hours to work — half the time of competing models. Just as importantly, due to its torque knurled handle, this handy device provides an even amount of heat and pressure, an equilibrium essential for mistake-free flattering.
Designed and made in Germany, the 6.2-pound Flat.Duo uses expanded polypropylene (EPP) comprised of 92% air and 8% polypropylene. Its high heat resistance and superb thermal insulation make it ideal for this application, and makes possible the passive tempering of your LPs. In sum: The slower and more evenly the temperature drops at the end of the process, the better the tempering technique and resulting sonics.

Vinyl Tempering

During tempering, the vinyl record is slowly and evenly heated up to the plateau temperature, held at this temperature for a while, and then cooled slowly and in a controlled manner. This process often takes up to four hours. Slow and even cooling is more important than heating. This allows the molecules to align themselves naturally and without stress. It significantly reduces the tensions and makes the material harder, more robust and more homogeneous. There is an audible improvement in the quality of playback.
Heating-Press Module
The innovative heating-press module of the Flat.Duo enables two records to be simultaneously flattened by stacking them in a piggyback method. The design of this module ensures even heat distribution and pressure, crucial for optimal flattening results.
Torque Knurled Handle
The torque-knurled handle plays a crucial role in the heating-press module of the Flat.Duo. It ensures that the individual components of the module and the records are held securely together and pressed with exactly the right pressure. This is essential for the uniformity and high quality of the flattening process.
