A Network Receiver in Name Only: Audiophile-Minded Yamaha R-N800A Serves as Integrated Amp, High-Res Streamer, Hub for an Array of Devices, and More
The Yamaha R-N800A is a network receiver in name only. In reality, this 100Wpc component serves an integrated amplifier, high-res hub, audio calibrator, smartphone-controllable streamer, and anchor for practically any source — CDs, LPs, computers, and your TV included. Symmetrical left/right circuitry layout, a 32-bit/384kHz ESS SABRE ES9010K2M DAC, a front-panel USB input that supports up to DSD 11.2MHz, a built-in phonostage, and Pure Direct mode — which enables music signals to travel the shortest possible route, bypassing the buffer amp and the tone, loudness and balance controls to virtually eliminate signal degradation — are among its audiophile-friendly features.
Ditto the presence of trademarked Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO), which performs high-precision equalization with accuracy of up to 64-bit/192 kHz. YPAO R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) works in tandem to actively control the important early reflection sounds, automatically adjusting and optimizing how the sound is heard in your room based on the materials of your walls and your speaker placement. The result: Extraordinary imaging and atmospherics.
Want to stream, enjoy high-res content, play discs, spin LPs, or dial in a radio station? Do it all. R-N800A plays with hi-fi sound at once dynamic, accurate, balanced, and detailed. Compatible with everything from TIDAL and Qobuz to Spotify and Amazon Music HD — and intrinsically linked with other Yamaha MusicCast devices that can provide multi-room audio — this 6 x 17.125 x 15.5-inch workhorse interfaces with Bluetooth, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and AirPlay.
Connections are a breeze. Three pairs of line-level inputs, two coaxial inputs, two optical inputs, a headphone output, a subwoofer output, and a preamp output give you lotsa options. Sleek looks punctuated by Yamaha’s resin-frame ArtBase that defeats ruinous vibration, anti-resonance feet, low-impedance-concept wiring, and a beefy array of old-school knobs and switches — plus a five-year warranty — make R-N800A one helluva performer.
