Moving-Coil Cartridge Offers Taut Bass, Warm Midranges, and Accurate Highs: Rega Ania Pro Maintains Balance During Playback, Features Vital-Profile Diamond Stylus and PPS Body
Tight bass, warm midranges, rich details, and accurate highs: That's the performance of the Rega Ania Pro moving-coil cartridge in a nutshell. Engineered to maintain terrific balance while playing vinyl LPs, the U.K.-engineered instrument features a vital-profile nude diamond stylus and comes housed in a rigid PPS body. Speaking of the latter, it's protected by a red CAD-designed cover to guard the fine internal wiring, which means Ania Pro proves a breeze to handle. Inside, a high-powered, neodymium magnet and micro coil are hand-wound to an iron micro cross. The assembly allows the cartridge freedom to track the vinyl groove – leading to superb information retrieval, microdynamics, and precision. An ideal match for Rega Planar 3, Planar 6, and Planar 8 turntables, Ania Pro puts the "pro" in "profound" when it comes to analog.
More About the Creation of Ania Pro
Rega's moving-coil cartridge design is unique in its approach to achieving an ultra-low mass generator that is un-damped (no tie wire) using a rhomboid pivot for the cantilever powered by a purpose-designed, Rega-exclusive neodymium magnet system. The design requires a zero-tolerance engineered cartridge body. Ania Pro's body uses a polymer/40% glass combination called Polyphenylene Sulphide (PPS-Fortron). Its special attributes relate to its hardness and stability in shape and dimension post-molding, both critical for optimal performance. PPS is a difficult polymer to mold and requires special attention to how the mold tool operates. Factor in the nearly un-moldable complex shape of the Ania body, and a very considerable challenge faced the Rega engineers and the toolmakers. The latter used the most accurate Swiss EDM CNC machines, routinely working down to a micron (one thousandth of a millimeter). To achieve the intricate body shape required the most complex high pressure injection mold tool Rega has ever designed. It has eight major parts, four of which must move in perfect synchronicity with each other to achieve each cartridge body. Combine the special PPS body with its high-specification stainless steel inserts, a unique rhomboid pivot system, a high-performance, diamond-tipped elliptical stylus cantilever with low-mass moving-coil generator assembly, and you have Ania Pro.
