Tri-Amplified ATC SCM50 ASLT Plays with Benchmark Presence, Speed, and Dynamics: Active Floor-Standing Loudspeakers Feature In-House-Built Amps
Have you ever experienced what it's like to have a live band or world-class orchestra transpire in front of you in your listening room? How well do you know the intricacies, timbre, and emotionalism of your favorite vocalists and instrumentalists? The tri-amplified ATC SCM50 ASLT active floor-standing loudspeakers are expertly engineered to help you find out – and expose contours associated with phrasing, rhythm, pacing, and tonality that few designs reveal – all the while saving you the hassle of finding suitable amplification.
Equally at home in professional studios and in high-fidelity systems, the British-built SCM50 ASLT bares the truth of the finite details embedded in recordings. The three-way model performs with an elevated standard of accuracy, transparency, and dynamics that at first blush might seem startling. Yes, recorded music can really sound this realistic, focused, balanced, articulate, and expressive.
Supplying a strapping 200W to the woofer, 100W to the midrange, and 50W to the tweeter, ATC's in-house-made amplifiers turn SCM50 ASLT into world-beating instruments that give you ultimate convenience (just add a preamp and source) and borderline-magical sonics. The powered version of SCM50 SL, SCM50 ASLT further improves on its sibling by both lessening what's required to drive it – and providing you everything you need right in the speaker. CM50 ASLT offers both iron-fisted control when required but also plays with delicacy when situations call for it. And it gets better: ATC inserts the Class A/B amplifiers after the crossover, eliminating any need for a sound-degrading filter network between the amp and drivers.
True to ATC's heritage, SCM50 ASLT plays with deep, crisp, agile bass and paint multi-dimensional soundstages. Afforded a one-inch SH25-76S silk-dome tweeter, three-inch SM75-150S soft-dome midrange driver, and 9.5-inch super-linear woofer – all manufactured in-house to create a cohesive array distinguished by symmetrical dispersion, stellar amplitude, and reference-level phase characteristics throughout the entire frequency range – these masterpiece floorstanders seamlessly juggle prized sonic aspects often at odds with one another. Attack, extension, detail, and tunefulness come through in spades, none needing to be sacrificed for the other. No wonder SCM50 ASLT proves such a well-rounder on every type of music.
“This speaker performs — it releases the music into your room without holding anything back... It's not like some audiophile speakers that sweeten the sound. This is more here is what is in the recording in the best possible light.”

"The three-way, tai-amplified SCM50 ASLT (with 75mm soft dome!) that I now own conveys a character of no-nonsense ease and neutrality that is underscored by three key properties: first, midrange presence and immediacy; second, midrange speed that borders on electrostatic territory; and third, a staggeringly wide dynamic envelope that easily puts electrostatics and most cone loudspeakers of this size to shame."
