Bookshelf Loudspeaker Plays with Uncommon Insight and Fullness: Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 Features Compact Footprint and Carbon Dome Tweeter
Once you hear the Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 bookshelf loudspeaker, you won’t soon forget it. In spite of its conveniently compact size, the 13.6 x 7.6 x 13.1-inch (HWD) unit plays with a rich, full sound that will fill even larger spaces with emotionally satisfying fidelity. Equally adept for dedicated two-channel stereo systems or for use as mains for a remarkable home-theater setup, 706 S3 features proprietary drivers and studio-inspired touches that provide uncommon insight, information retrieval, and engaging presence from the music it plays.
Improving on its predecessor, 706 S3 incorporates developments and materials originally devised for Bowers & Wilkins’ flagship 800 Diamond Series. A slimmer cabinet complements a curved front section that features a protruding driver mounted in a distinct pod. This combination results in reduced baffling effects and richer tonal presence. Improvements to the motors, crossovers, chassis, and terminal trays complement a one-inch Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter that raises the breakup threshold to 47kHz, leading to pinpoint imaging and uncanny accuracy.
Equally impressive, a 6.5-inch Continuum cone midrange driver provides open, neutral mids and smooth, extended bass. Bowers & Wilkins' rear-firing Flowport for reduced friction and improved efficiency, removable magnetic grilles, two-piece foam plug for low-end tweaking, self-adhesive rubber feet, and gold-plated binding-post terminals help complete this 18.6-pound standmount.
Apart from its advanced technology and superb construction, 706 S3 soars because of its versatility and manner in which it allows music (and/or movies) spring to life with clarity, definition, and spaciousness. Couple this prowess with a five-year manufacturer warranty, and your bases are covered.
