Go Bigger While Staying Small: Performance of JBL Stage 250B Bookshelf Loudspeaker Belies Its Size, Features Sophisticated Driver Section, Precision Crossover, HDI Waveguide, and Floating Front Baffle

The JBL Stage 250B establishes a new bar for bookshelf loudspeakers in its ability to play with a seriously big sound from a small, space-conscious 12.6 x 7.9 x 9.5-inch (HWD) footprint. Its prowess owes to a driver section with a one-inch anodized aluminum tweeter and 5.25-inch polycellulose ribbed cone woofer; cutting-edge crossover; next-gen HDI waveguide; and floating front baffle. These traits are nearly impossible to find in models at this price point. Factor in JBL’s renowned history of speaker development, and the trickle-down technology and engineering know-how that comes with that, and Stage 250B stands at the head of its class when it comes to lively, engaging, and accurate sound.

Developed and created at JBL’s renowned Acoustic Engineer Center of Excellence in California, the 12.6 x 7.9 x 9.5-inch (HWD) Stage 250B can ably serve in a high-end stereo or home-theater setup. It’s voiced to seamlessly match with the other models in the Stage 2 Series, and can easily function as a fantastic rear-channel option. A precision two-way crossover adds to its appeal. Built with air-core inductors and mylar capacitors for ultra-low distortion in the hf section, and laminate-core inductors and electrolytic capacitors for fast speed in the lf section, this unique design crosses over the top woofer right below the tweeter’s output; the other woofer is crossed over at a lower frequency. The upshot: A punchy midrange that still permits the woofer to properly extend, and a cohesive, balanced output that transmits what you want to hear with impressive clarity and energy. Another hi-fi-minded feature: a rear-firing port that reduces the velocity of air emanating from the cabinet and helps eliminate coloration.

Available in two classy finishes, the 12.4-pound Stage 250B touts looks that parallel its alluring sonics. Removable magnetic grilles, anti-slip pads, and a five-year manufacturer warranty further the can’t-miss value of this compact go-getter.
