Fully Horn-Loaded Floor-Standing Loudspeaker Features the World's Most Efficient Tweeter: Klipsch Klipschorn AK6 Has New Drivers, AudioQuest Wiring, Enclosed Back
No speaker in audio history claims a richer heritage than the Klipsch Klipschorn floor-standing loudspeaker. And few, if any, has proven as influential. In continuous production for more than 70 years – a longevity record approached by no other model – one of just two fully horn-loaded designs available to consumers stands as a testament to pioneering engineering, extraordinary vision, and flawless execution. Handcrafted in the U.S.A., Klipschorns remain true to their original goal of reproducing the power, scope, detail, and emotion of live performances in listeners' homes. That the fundamentals of the speaker are still the same as they were at its inception further attest to the brilliance of this truly iconic, watershed invention. Named one of "The 12 Most Significant Loudspeakers of All Time" by The Absolute Sound, Klipschorn boasts incredibly high sensitivity, smooth frequency response, ultra-low distortion, controlled directivity, and profound dynamic range. It is an indisputable legend – a classic that never goes out of style. And with version AK6, it has never sounded more breathtaking.
Capable of extreme output levels and immensely clean playback, Klipschorn AK6 features a new fully enclosed low-frequency horn that eliminates the prior need for each speaker to be placed tightly against the corner of a room. As long as it is the proximity of a corner, you'll realize the dramatic ability of the horn. A newly designed enclosed back further provides positioning flexibility to angle each Klipschorn AK6 to attain optimal stereo imaging. And yes, the speaker's physics still utilize the walls and floor as low-frequency extensions of its patented folded-horn 15-inch woofer – one of the most revolutionary inventions in high-end history.
Enhanced with a passive network equipped with AudioQuest Type 4 Star-Quad Geometry wiring, Klipschorn AK6's three-way system also involves a one-and-a-half-inch midrange mated to a high-efficiency exponential horn as well as the most efficient (109dB) tweeter you can buy: A one-inch neodymium tweeter with a lightweight polyimide diaphragm and copper-clad voice coil coupled to a 90 x 40-degree Tractix horn. The latter's phase plug design extends the high-frequency performance to an astounding 20kHz. Each Klipschorn AK6 driver is further optimized to operate in its individual pass-band arrangement that permits this bespoke speaker to be a staggering 10 to 20 times more efficient than other conventional loudspeakers. Higher efficiency means greater acoustic power generated with considerably less effort from the loudspeaker's diaphragm. Let's just say you'll likely never need a subwoofer or doubt what a tube amplifier can do ever again.
Weighing 220 pounds a piece, and measuring 53 inches tall, 28.25 inches deep, and 31.25 inches wide, Klipschorn AK6 amounts to far more than a loudspeaker: It is a piece of your decor and a conversation-starting artwork. It literally shouts how much you value high-quality music playback and, as time has shown, will likely outlast any trend that comes along during the next seven decades. Built to last in Hope, Arkansas, each speaker comes with book-matched wood veneers that lend to flawless visual consistency and timeless appeal. A riser base with a cable-management system that cleanly hides speaker cables, bi-amp inputs and five-way binding posts crown a speaker that is like none other.
If you have the proper room – meaning, you have two open corners – and the space, we highly urge you to experience unprecedented audio history in your own home. Klipsch's 10-year warranty and the testimony of seven decades of listeners give you as much security in your decision as you'll ever need.
"The bass horn design has never been improved – it was perfect from day one."
—The Absolute Sound, The 12 Most Significant Loudspeakers of All Time
"Nowadays speakers with horn-loaded woofers are extremely rare, but – trust me on this – nothing pressurizes a room like a pair of K-Horns with 15-inch bass drivers."
—Steve Guttenberg, Sound & Vision
"The AK6 also seems to offer exceptional value: for the technology, woodworking, and sheer size it offers, $14,998 for a pair of these is a steal. No one with a taste for realistic playback, and especially no one with a taste for low-power amps and high-sensitivity speakers, should miss a chance to hear these."
—Art Dudley, Stereophile
Three-Way, Fully Horn-Loaded Design
Klipschorn is the one of two fully horn-loaded loudspeakers available to consumers. With its three-way system, each driver is coupled to a horn and optimized to operate in its individual pass-band. This allows the Klipschorn to be a staggering 10 to 20 times more efficient than other conventional loudspeakers. Higher efficiency yields greater acoustic power, which is generated with considerably less effort. The result is the cleanest, most dynamic sound possible throughout the entire musical range.
Brand-New Neodymium Tweeter
Klipschorn features a neodymium tweeter with a 1" polyimide diaphragm and copper clad aluminum voice coil. This lightweight diaphragm assembly and high-strength magnet structure creates the tweeter's extremely high 109dB sensitivity and makes it the most efficient consumer tweeter on the market. When coupled to a 90° x 40° Tractrix horn, the tweeter sets new levels of performance for dynamic range and output. The phase plug design extends high frequency performance to 20kHz, meaning you hear the most subtle high frequency details better than ever.
Low-Frequency Horn Design Now Fully Enclosed
Klipschorn's low-frequency horn has been redesigned and is now fully enclosed. This eliminates the need for the loudspeakers to be positioned tightly in the corner of a listening room. The speaker only needs to be in the proximity of the corner to realize the horn's full performance. Additionally, the enclosed back provides positioning flexibility to angle the speaker to achieve the best stereo imaging.
A Midrange for Where You Live
According to company founder Paul W. Klipsch, "the midrange is where we live" and is one of the most critical parts in any loudspeaker design. Klipschorn's midrange utilizes a 1.5-inch compression drivers mated to a high efficiency exponential horn that maximizes the system's power and performance. As a result, less distortion is produced by the amplifier and by the loudspeaker. That means clarity, accuracy, and remarkable tonal definition.
Premium Wire Management
Klipschorn features a riser base that not only enhances the look of the speaker, but also improves the wire management so that speaker cables are cleanly hidden.
Bi-Amp Input and AudioQuest Type 4 Wiring
Klipschorn's premium, aluminum input panel accommodates large, high-quality speaker cables. Strong, versatile, and quality binding posts provide the capability for bi-wiring or bi-amping. The quality continues with AudioQuest Type 4 with Star-Quad Geometry internal wiring featuring carbon-loaded insulation, nitrogen-injected PE, and solid long-grain copper conductors.
Book-Matched Wood Veneer
Klipsch only uses book-matched wood veneers for the Heritage series of speakers. The veneer leaves are kept in order as they are delicately sliced from the timber and precisely arranged to provide a mirror image at the splice joint – like turning the pages of a book. This gives each speaker an aesthetically appealing and consistent appearance that is treasured more than any other cut of wood veneer.
Grain-Matched Pairs
Each pair of Heritage Series loudspeakers is grain-matched, using wood veneer panels that come from the same timber. Each cabinet is carefully matched so that each speaker in the pair is practically identical to each other. While the speakers move seamlessly together through the factory, each finished product is inspected and labeled with sequential serial numbers, ensuring that every Heritage Series speaker leaves the factory as a meticulously crafted set.
