Fully Horn-Loaded Floor-Standing Loudspeakers Tout Seemingly Endless Dynamics and Incredible Efficiency: Made-for-Tube-Amps Klipsch La Scala AL5 Generates 105dB on a Single Watt

Make way for the Klipsch La Scala AL5 floor-standing loudspeakers. No, seriously. Make way. Measuring 40 inches tall, 24.25 inches wide, and 25.35 inches deep, each of these "Mini-Klipschorn" behemoths weighs more than 195 pounds and requires approximately a two-by-two-feet space in your room. But once you clear the space, you'll forever be glad you did. The three-way fully horn-loaded La Scala AL5 provides extreme sonic thrills by way of immense highs, incredibly robust output, and exceptional low-distortion playback.

Originally devised as a public-address speaker for a gubernatorial candidate in company founder Paul Klipsch's home state of Arkansas, La Scala AL5 soon became adopted by discerning music listeners who fell under the spell of its pro-quality sonics. Specifically, stellar detail retrieval, see-through clarity, and the effortless ability to play loud. Boasting incredibly high sensitivity, it generates 105dB of sound pressure on a single watt — meaning you can use an extremely modest power amplifier and still get blown away. Tube lovers, welcome to paradise.

Updated for the modern age, La Scala AL5 is loaded with a newly devised neodymium tweeter with a one-inch polyimide diaphragm and copper-clad aluminum voice coil coupled to a 90 x 40-degree Tractix horn, a combination that delivers high-frequencies beyond a mind-warping 20kHz. Unsurprisingly, the design happens to be the most efficient tweeter (109dB) on the market. Not to be forgotten, a two-inch, fiber-composite, horn-loaded midrange accompanies a massive, folded-horn, 15-inch fiber-composite cone woofer. The upshot: Dynamics that seemingly go on for miles and arena-level performance attributes. The spoils continue with an updated crossover network with Mylar capacitors, low-insertion-loss iron-core inductors and AudioQuest Type 4 with Star-Quad Geometry internal wiring replete with carbon-loaded insulation and solid long-grain copper conductors.

Handcrafted in the U.S.A., La Scala AL5's redesigned high-frequency cabinet is now one-inch thick, ensuring a more rigid enclosure that reduces resonance while creating a waterfall appearance in the vertical grain-matched wood veneers between the high- and low-frequency cabinets. Like those on all Klipsch Heritage Series models, the book-matched wood veneers on each speaker allow each La Scala AL5 to look exactly like the other — and contribute visual consistency to your decor. A retro-style silver luster grille cloth and a nostalgic script cast zinc logo complete the look.

If you're ready to experience one of the most distinctive-looking and -sounding speakers ever created — and one that has immensely contributed to American high-end audio history — simply select the finish you desire. Klipsch's 10-year warranty does the rest.

"It makes music a living, breathing, tactile entity that has you on the edge of your seat, transfixed. It's also surprisingly civilized for a large horn speaker, making it acceptable to a wider audience than you'd think. An audition is highly recommended then, if your room matches your ambitions!"
Hi-Fi News, Outstanding Product review

"It's hugely dramatic and visceral, with a physical sense of the music meeting you in space and time. This isn't about reclining back in your sofa with a glass of whiskey and water, because this speaker pins you to your seat — yet you can do nothing except sit up and listen."
Stereonet, Applause Award

Book-Matched Wood Veneers

Klipsch only uses book-matched wood veneers for Heritage Series. The veneer leaves are kept in order as they are delicately sliced from the timber and precisely arranged to provide a mirror image at the splice joint — like turning the pages of a book. This gives each speaker a more aesthetically appealing and consistent appearance that is treasured more than any other cut of wood veneer.

Matched Pairs

Each pair of Heritage Series loudspeakers is grain-matched using wood veneer panels that come from the same timber. Each cabinet is carefully matched so that each speaker in the pair is practically indistinguishable from the other. The speakers move seamlessly together through the factory. Each finished product is inspected and labeled with sequential serial numbers, ensuring Heritage Series speakers leave the factory as a meticulously crafted set.
