Passion and Precision: Yamaha NS-2000A Floor-Standing Speaker Plays with Faithful Expressiveness, Features Cabinetry Inspired by Grand Pianos

Inspired by the company’s iconic pianos and designed to reproduce music with uncanny finesse, realism, and presence, the Yamaha NS-2000A floor-standing speaker plays with breathtaking musicality, tonality, and cohesiveness. Using construction and technologies originally developed for its flagship NS-5000 model, this three-way speaker values passion and precision to an equal degree. When you experience music through NS-2000A, you’ll doubtlessly hear details, timbres, and instrumental separation you never noticed from even your favorite records. The 72.3-pound NS-2000A will change how and how often you listen — for the better.

Equipped with two 6.5-inch woofers, a 3.25-inch midrange, and 1.25-inch dome tweeter, NS-2000A uses audiophile-grade Mundorf MCap Supreme Classic capacitors in the crossover circuitry. Each drive unit is made from a blend of Zylon and spruce, which affords superb speed responsiveness and minimal internal dispersion. The materials also contribute to the accurate, faithful expressiveness NS-2000A offers throughout the frequency spectrum. Think about the way harmonies rise and carry, or how quiet moments act as notes in their own ways. NS-2000A specializes in such moments; images vocals, instruments, and atmospherics in three-dimensional positions; and brings to the life the environment of the original performance space so that you are “there.”

Inside, Yamaha installs its patented Acoustic Absorber resonator tube to both eradicate standing waves and minimize the amount of absorbing material so that the energy, soulfulness, and breadth of the recording aren’t compromised. Similarly, patented Resonance Suppression (RS) chambers are mounted on the back of the tweeter and midrange units in order to help convey the subtlest nuances and voices. Two specially shaped tubes cancel unwanted resonance generated behind the diaphragm.

The elegant exterior of the 44.625 x 13 x 18.125-inch (HWD) NS-2000A looks like it belongs on a concert stage. Engineered with vibration analysis technology used for making Yamaha pianos, and given the same signature gloss finish found on the very same grand pianos, NS-2000A is a work of art even when it isn’t playing music. Pure brass speaker terminals, four spikes, a reinforced cabinet cross piece that supplies a stable foundation and solid low-frequency depth, and detachable grilles complete an aesthetic that’s as beautiful as NS-2000A sounds.

Zylon and Spruce Diaphragms
Yamaha creates flagship speakers under the design concept of having consistent tone color throughout the entire frequency spectrum and applied unique technology to achieve it. Every speaker unit in NS-2000A is made from a blend of ZYLON, which has excellent sound velocity and minimal internal dispersion, and spruce, which is used in the soundboard of Yamaha grand pianos. This ensures accurate, faithful tonal expression throughout the entire audio spectrum, making the harmonies of the sound stand out and the music richer and more beautiful. The position of the artist and the instruments, as well as the delicate nuances and the very atmosphere of the performance space, is stunningly reproduced. The resulting soundstage will make you feel as if you were watching the performance unfold right in front of you.

RS Chambers and Acoustic Absorber Tube
Patented Resonance Suppression (R.S.) chambers are mounted on the back of the tweeter and midrange units in order to faithfully express even the subtlest nuances of musical instruments and voices. Two specially shaped tubes cancel out unwanted resonance generated behind the diaphragm without relying on conventional sound-absorbing materials. This revives the natural sound and maintains the minute musical details in the original source. In addition, NS-2000A employs a patented Acoustic Absorber resonator tube to eliminate standing waves. This patented technology minimizes the amount of absorbing material so that the original realism of music that tends to be lost by sound absorption is reproduced with full energy and dynamism.

Cabinet Inspired by Piano Construction
The basis for producing excellent sound — determining what makes the enclosure sound and where to suppress vibration — is virtually identical whether crafting musical instruments or creating speakers. The cabinet construction of NS-2000A incorporates state-of-the-art speaker design technology that makes full use of laser vibrometers used in musical instrument research and development, as well as sophisticated Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis. The cross piece of the cabinet has been optimally reinforced ensuring solid low-frequency response, providing a secure, comfortable musical foundation without anything being lost.
