Description

Enjoy Wide Signal Range, Excelent Clarity, and 40 Presets: McIntosh MR89 AM/FM Tuner Features 60dB Output Meters and Exclusive RF Circuitry

Expand your free-music listening options, receive a wide range of radio signals, and enjoy excellent clarity from AM and FM stations with the McIntosh MR89 AM/FM tuner. Equipped with proprietary RF circuitry for CD-caliber sound quality and stellar FM reception, MR89 also enhances AM listening via an RAA2 external antenna with a 20-foot-long cable. Advancements to measurable fields such as sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio, harmonic distortion, and channel selectivity further set MR89 apart in the field — and from its predecessor.

Ditto a host of useful new features. To help with low-quality FM stereo broadcasts, Stereo Blending comes with a first-time High Blend option that more aggressively blends the high-frequency portion of the audio frequency range. Softmute reduces audio output when receiving low-quality stations or between-station static and noise. You can also tamp down noise with the new Highcut function. All four options tout multiple aggressiveness settings to suit station quality and your personal preferences.

When the 25.5-pound MR89 is in operation, you will doubtlessly notice the presence of 60dB blue output meters that serve as an accurate indicator of the unit’s stereo separation abilities (when you control the volume via a preamp or integrated amp). In the center of the black-glass front panel, the LED display shows station name, music genre, artist name, and song title — courtesy of MR89’s support for RBDS — when transmitted by the station. Like your room dark? All RBDS data is defeatable and adjustable.

For more user-friendly flexibility and integration with existing systems, MR89 includes balanced and single-ended analog outputs plus digital coax and optical outputs. McIntosh build-quality hallmarks — a mirror-finished stainless-steel chassis, brushed aluminum end caps, large knobs — plus an intuitive remote control, total of 40 presets (20 per band), and RS232 control for whole-house audio operation further place the U.S.A.-made MR89 into a league of its own.

Presets and Display

The MR89 can store up to 20 preset stations in both the AM and FM band. You can dial in your favorite AM and FM radio stations using the smooth, precise tuning knob. MR89 supports the FM Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS), allowing the display to show a wealth of information, such as station name, music genre, artist name, and song title (provided such data is transmitted by the station). A Seek function is available through either the front panel controls or from the included remote control. The sensitivity of the Seek function is adjustable through setup menus.

Sensitive Output Meters

A pair of 60-decibel output meters show the signal level that's being delivered from the analog outputs of each channel. While the volume is controlled by your preamplifier, integrated amplifier, or other control device, the meters on MR89 accurately portray the Left and Right channel audio output generated from the received station. Depending on the program received, the meters are a good indication of MR89's excellent stereo separation.

FM and AM Frequencies

MR89 can receive the following FM frequencies that are used in the listed regions as well as in many other parts of the world: 87.5MHz – 108.0MHz (Europe); 88.1MHz – 107.9MHz (USA); and 76.0MHz – 108.0MHz (Japan). For AM reception, it can receive 531kHz – 1701kHz (Europe); 530kHz – 1700kHz (USA); and 531kHz – 1629kHz (Japan).
