Description

The Embodiment of Simplicity: Fully Automatic, Belt-Drive Dual CS 429 Turntable Offers the Sonic Glory of Superb Vinyl Playback at the Push of a Button

Want great vinyl sound without any hassle? The engineers at Dual designed the fully automatic, belt-drive CS 429 turntable to deliver exceptional sound with maximum ease of use. At the push of a button, the straight tonearm automatically lifts, shifts over to the LP, and lowers the needle. When the side of the LP ends, the tonearm lifts automatically, and the motor turns itself off. If you wanted to demonstrate a turntable to an extraterrestrial alien who had never seen such a machine before, you could put an LP on the CS 429 and say, "Push the Start button."

Embarking on a sonic voyage through your vinyl collection has never been easier. And because the CS 429 is equipped with an Ortofon 2M Red phono cartridge and a built-in, switchable phono stage, you can unbox it and be listening to your favorite record within minutes.

This reliable turntable would be perfect for a music lover who is just beginning to explore vinyl, as well as the listener who has been away from LPs for a few years and now is eager to return to the world of high-quality records.

Versatility, customization, and convenience are hallmarks of the CS 429, which has a fully adjustable tonearm. All functions can be fully automatic, or they can be manual if you prefer. The Ortofon 2M Red moving-magnet (MM) phono cartridge has won accolades around the world, and is far superior to the factory-mounted cartridges included with many turntables in this price class. If, in the future, you decide to upgrade the cartridge, it's easy to do so, and it's a breeze to adjust the tracking force and anti-skating accordingly.

This turntable's straight, balanced tonearm features solid aluminum construction with ball bearings. Meticulous engineering allows the CS 429 to be whisper-quiet during operation, and the optical speed control ensures consistent, unwavering speed for all three settings (33, 45, and 78 RPM). The aluminum die-cast platter is equipped with a hardened steel spindle in a brass brushing, making the turntable look as great as it sounds. The precision-cut belt reinforces speed stability, significantly reducing "wow and flutter."

Additionally, the high-value CS 429 incorporates numerous anti-vibration elements. The solid MDF plinth and the heavy rubber mat both were designed to dampen resonances. The internal rubber damping construction decouples the tonearm and platter from external vibrations, and an elastomer vibration absorber is integrated inside the custom feet.

Dual has upped the convenience factor by including a removable dust cover for protection. You can audition this stellar turntable risk-free with the peace of mind that comes with the 100% Music Direct Satisfaction Guarantee.

"An affordable turntable that is ready to go out of the box, offering really good sound, and can later become a great base for further upgrades is the dream of many vinyl lovers.... The CS 429 can give a lot of joy even in its factory configuration, and with a better cartridge and an external phono stage, it can get dangerously close to the machines from a different price category...."
—Tomasz Karasiński, Stereo Life (Poland)

"[The CS 429 offers] good dynamics, transparency, and stereophony, the things I always miss most when testing inexpensive turntables equipped with a poor, cheap cartridge.... We have bass, midrange, and treble—everything in perfect order...."
—Tomasz Karasiński, Stereo Life (Poland)

Dual Company History

In Germany in 1907, the Steidinger Brothers Factory for Precision Mechanics was founded. It introduced the so-called "Dual-Motor," which was a combination of a spring-loaded clockwork and an electric motor for portable gramophone units, which were popular in the early 20th century. The "Dual Motor" became so successful that the name "Dual" was chosen as the official company brand name. The first "Dual Turntable" was released in 1935.

Innovations continued to emerge throughout the decades. In 1985, Dual introduced its model CS 5000, a belt-driven, manually operated turntable with a gorgeous wooden plinth. Dual also designed and presented some of the first compact disc players made in Germany, along with other cutting-edge products.

In 2020, DGC GmbH changed its name to Dual GmbH and introduced a new generation of turntables designed or made in Germany.
