Sarah McLachlan is one of the most celebrated singer songwriters in entertainment with over 40 million albums sold worldwide. She is an eight-time Juno Award winner and a three-time Grammy Award winner. McLachlan’s landmark fifth album, the 10x-platinum Surfacing, contained two Grammy Award-winning tracks: “Building a Mystery” and “Last Dance.”
1991's Solace is the singer's second album following her 1988 debut Touch. Serving as her commercial breakthrough in her home country the promising and profound 10-song set spawned the hit singles "The Path of Thorns (Terms)" and "Into the Fire" and marked the beginning of her fruitful relationship with producer Pierre Marchand.
"Marchand's influence was immediately apparent; McLachlan moved on from her rather immature gothic first album Touch and evolved a more modern, technology-influenced folk-rock style which began to find form on her second album Solace. According to Marchand, they found common ground in their mutual admiration of Peter Gabriel, but their collaboration went much further than that." - Sound on Sound
