Adam And The Ants Kings Of The Wild Frontier on LP
2016 Vinyl Reissue of the Blockbusting 1980 Album Which Introduced the Burundi Beat Drum Sound to the World At Large!
In October, 1980, millions of living rooms across the UK were set on fire by the blazing performance by Adam and the Ants on Top of the Pops. After three ferocious minutes of "Dog Eat Dog" the phenomenon rapidly began and they would dominate the charts for the following few years. But this was no overnight success.
The journey had started in college where Adam had teamed up with some friends to form the band Bazooka Joe. With Adam on bass guitar, they played around London and it was on a cold November night in 1975 that Adam's life changed forever after he watched The Sex Pistols play their first-ever gig supporting Bazooka Joe. Adam was inspired and immediately formed The Ants. The band built a huge cult following and, in 1979, they released their debut album, Dirk Wears White Søx, that topped the independent chart. In early 1980, the Ants left Adam after they received an offer to work with the former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren.
Adam put his ideas for a new ‘warrior' sound into practice and had soon put together a fresh band including two drummers. The band signed a major-label deal and recorded the blockbusting Kings of the Wild Frontier (1980), the UK No. 1 album that introduced the Burundi beat drum sound to the world at large. ‘Antmania' swept the nation and Adam Ant became one of the most publicized faces in Britain. At one point, Adam had eight singles in the top 40 in one week! Adam celebrated his continuing success in the United States with a ‘Best New Artist' Grammy nomination in 1982.
