Haunting melodies run through Pendant World, the keenly awaited second Deutsche Grammophon album from Texas-based band Balmorhea. Its 13 tracks dissolve hard genre boundaries to reveal a broad spectrum of styles, textures, rhythms and colours. Found sounds, samples, vinyl recordings, synths, brass and flutes are newly added to Balmorhea's regular "voices" of piano, acoustic guitars andstrings. Joining Rob Lowe and Michael A. Muller on Pendant World are regular collaborators violinist/vocalist Aisha Burns and cellist Clarice Jensen, and an equally distinguished line-up of other guest artists: experimental jazz saxophonist Sam Gendel, Joseph Shabason on tenor sax and flute, clarinettist Jonathan Sielaff, percussionist Jason Treuting and vocalists Steph Jenkins and Lisa Morgenstern. Grammy-winning engineer and producer Jonathan Low adds synths and percussion and also produced the album at state-of-the-art recording studio Guilford Sound in Vermont.
