Karl Bohm conducts the Vienna Philharmonic for a performance of Ludwig Van Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op. 68 Pastoral. 180g vinyl pressing from Clearaudio.
"Böhm has always been a fine conductor, of course; yet he does seem to be one of those who achieve their real greatness at a later age. We have recently had a Beethoven No. 5 from him which I thought a superlative achievement: and now he comes up with this perfectly lovely Pastoral, for which I can find nothing but praise. As in the Fifth Symphony he resorts to no clever interpretative ideas. He just sees that his orchestra (and what an orchestra!) plays what Beethoven wrote, he gets them to play at their finest which, with the VPO in the Viennese classics is in itself something to glory in; and he is wonderfully served by DGG's recording." - Gramophone/Trevor Harvey
