Mastered Directly from the Original 30 IPS 1/4 Inch Analogue Master / Cut by Bernie Grundman on All Analogue Tube Cutting System
This 2002 masterwork from tenor saxophonist Bennie Wallace (ex-Audioquest and Enja Records and a familiar audiophile artist) is one of his finest and most lyrical sessions to date. Recorded direct to 2-track at Systems 2 in New York in May 2001 the session featured the hottest American jazz musicians around with Mulgrew Miller (piano), Peter Washington (bass) and Lewis Nash (drums).
The sound and feel of the album is very close to that of the great Moodsville and Prestige recordings of the 50s and 60s featuring artists like Gene Ammons and the record is a tribute to those great recordings; hence the title. There are stunning versions of "April In Paris," "A Flower Is A Lovesome Thing" and "When A Man Loves A Woman." This is the kind of beautiful, smoky, full bodied and ballad-filled tenor saxophone album that audiophiles fall head over heals for!
Groove Note records all of their albums at the best studios in Hollywood (Oceanway, Record One, Cello, Sunset Sound) using a top Grammy nominated recording engineer, Michael C. Ross.
