For new fans, Cat Steven's 1975 Greatest Hits compilation is an essential introduction to one of the most popular singer-songwriters in history. For those already well-versed in his music, it's a concise collection of a few of the most poetic and touching songs in the history of pop music. Stevens' early U.K. hits earned him cult status in the U.S. but he became a star here with the 1970 release of Tea For The Tillerman and its "Wild World" (No. 11), "Hard Headed Woman" and "Father And Son." Teaser And The Firecat, released the following year, scored with "Morning Has Broken" (No. 6), "Peace Train" (No. 7) and "Moonshadow" (No. 30). Catch Bull At Four in 1972 was his fourth of eight consecutive gold albums and included "Sitting" (No. 16) and "Can't Keep It In." From 1974's Buddah And The Chocolate Box, Greatest Hits culls "Oh Very Young" (No. 10) and "Ready." Stevens' rendition of Sam Cooke's "Another Saturday Night" (No. 19) was a non-album single earlier that same year which then appeared on Greatest Hits. "Two Fine People" was a track exclusive to Greatest Hits, whose original edition has been certified triple platinum.
