Half-Speed Mastered 180g Vinyl LP Reissue Produced from the Original Atlantic Stereo Tapes by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios
In June 2019, Chic's first three albums will be released individually on vinyl LP. These versions of Chic (1977), C'est Chic (1978) and Risqué (1979) feature the Nile Rodgers' Signature Edition Remasters, which debuted in 2018 as part of The Chic Organization 1977-1979 box set. Each album was remastered from the original Atlantic stereo tapes by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios. Rodgers served as executive producer and supervised the remastering with the approval of Bernard Edwards' estate. To ensure exceptional sound quality, the albums were mastered at half-speed and pressed on 180-gram vinyl.
Guitarist and Songwriters Hall of Fame/Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Nile Rodgers and bassist and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, Bernard Edwards famously formed Chic in 1976 after Rodgers was inspired by seeing Roxy Music play live in London. A year later, the band signed with Atlantic Records where they helped define the pop and disco genres with unstoppable hits like "Le Freak," "Good Times," "I Want Your Love," "Everybody Dance," "My Feet Keep Dancing" and "My Forbidden Lover."
The burgeoning disco movement catapulted Chic's soulful, sophisticated sound to the pop charts with "Everybody Dance" and the Grammy-nominated Top 10 hit "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)." The group's gold-selling eponymous debut began a 7-year association with Atlantic. Follow-up C'est Chic, which Billboard selected as the "#1 R&B Album of 1979," featured another Top 10 gold single with "I Want Your Love" while "Le Freak" topped the pop, R&B, and disco charts, earning the distinction of the biggest-selling single in the label's history. A wall of gold singles and platinum albums grew with Chic's third release, Risqué. "Good Times" not only scored another crossover No. 1 hit for the group, and would influence hits by rock acts like Queen, Blondie, INXS, and the Clash, it kindled the hip hop movement when Sugar Hill Gang memorably sampled the track on "Rapper's Delight."
Rodgers notes, "My life has been everything I ever hoped it could be as a result of the incredible music Bernard and I made together. This has been recognized both critically and commercially as some of the finest of all time and that's everything we hoped for as two young musicians who knew no limits and who's partnership was effortless. Having the biggest selling single in the history of Atlantic Records, one of the greatest labels of all time, what a dream! It was important to me that we make these the best sounding editions ever as a tribute to 'Nard. I'm quite certain that Miles Showell and I and the team at Abbey Road succeeded. Forty years later this all feels so fresh."
