Chicano Batman source their high-spirited alternative synthesis from Tropicália, West Coast psychedelia, and late-'60s/early-'70s soul. ATO Records presents a colored vinyl LP reissue with foil-board jacket of the Los Angeles psych-soul four-piece's self-released self-titled 2010 debut featuring the fan favorite song "Itotiani." L.A. Record wrote: "Chicano Batman's debut record draws influences from some of South and Central America's greatest musicians. While tunes like "Día Do Sol" and "Lembrancinha" evoke the smooth artistry of the Tropicalismo movement's Caetano Veloso, the one-two tempo and one-and-five basslines of "La Manzanita" are reminiscent of Los Tigres del Norte-style Norteño, complete with gritos méxicanos and an organ-turned-accordion. "A Hundred Dead and Loving Souls" – one of only two songs in English – is a lovely variation on the ice cream chord progression (made popular by the Penguins' "Earth Angel") that delivers a Los Ángeles Negros-flavored doowop-influenced tune perfectly decorated with quick and able buzz rolls from drummer Gabriel Villa and a buttery guitar solo by Eduardo Arenas. "It's a Balloon" shows off keyboardist Bardo Martinez, who unfurls billowing melodies across crybaby guitar and a solid basslines. Chicano Batman is one of those rare ensembles that are a real band – playing with each other rather than over each other."
