De La Soul Aoi: Bionix on 2LP
2001's Bionix served as the second installment in Da La Soul's Art Official Intelligence series following 2000's Mosaic Thump and sixth studio effort overall. Lead single "Baby Phat" (feat. Yummy Bingham and Devin the Dude) is an ode to larger sized women while "Held Down" (feat. Cee- Lo) finds Posdnuos in an introspective mood as he muses on fatherhood, religion, and fame. Slick Rick also makes an appearance here on "What We Do (For Love)," a humorous song about puberty and sexual discovery. The album includes a series of skits with a character by the name of Reverend Do Good, which worked as social commentary as well as the intros and outros of the songs.
