Description

Duke Ellington Blues In Orbit on 200g LP from Analogue Productions

Remastered by Bernie Grundman from the Original Analog Tapes

Although the slow blues title track was cut in 1958 with a fifteen-piece orchestra, the majority of the material found on Duke Ellington's undisputed Columbia Records 1960 gem Blues In Orbit was recorded the following year with slightly smaller configurations.

Melding the feel of a formal studio date with a loose late-night jam session, the light and nuanced Blues In Orbit finds the Duke trading licks with the likes of Ray Nance, Clark Terry and Johnny Hodges among others, on an 11-song set that includes a few numbers by Billy Strayhorn, established classics from the Ellington songbook as well as more recent compositions and a few rarities for good measure.

Now Blues In Orbit gets the well-deserved full Analogue Productions reissue treatment in 2016. This super silent 200-gram vinyl edition features remastering from the original analog tapes courtesy of famed engineer Bernie Grundman, lacquers plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings, and old-school "tip-on" on jacket packaging by Stoughton Printing.
