A true genius of the cello, full of joy and life, Jacqueline du Pré passed away on October 19, 1987 at the age of only 42 after many years fighting multiple sclerosis. This LP - which finds du Pré performing Dvorak's lyrical and stirring Cello Concerto in B Minor and Silent Woods, Op. 68 alongside Daniel Barenboim and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra - was culled from the five LP box set 5 Legendary Recordings which was released in November 2017 to mark the 30th anniversary of Jacqueline's passing. It uses the 24-BIT/96kHz remastering made at Abbey Road in 2011 for the Japanese SACD version.
"I have never encountered anyone for whom music was such a natural form of expression as it was for Jacqueline...She had a capacity to imagine sound such as I never met in any other musician." - Daniel Barenboim
"Jackie was always the most exciting cellist. It would be hard to think of another that took as many risks as she did...always for expressive reasons. There is no other artist who can transfer that sense of excitement onto vinyl." - Yo-Yo Ma
