1975's Trying to Burn the Sun is the third and final album from Ronnie James Dio's Elf, which would subsequently evolve into Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. A Roger Glover-produced collection of originals penned by Dio with pianist Mickey Lee Soule, for those expecting to hear the hard rock and heavy metal that made the unrivaled singer famous in Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio might be pleasantly surprised by the more laid-back, Stonesy rock ‘n' roll of Elf. But the common thread is Dio's vocal excellence and it's another worthy chapter in his career and '70s rock in general!
