1999's Peace served as Eurythmics' first studio release in a decade following 1989's We Too Are One and their final studio effort to date. A unique aesthetic sphere of Stewart's and Lennox's unmistakable vocals, indelible melodies and trademark musical risk-taking and ambition, Peace is emphatically Eurythmics for the new millennium, absolutely contemporary, yet poised for timelessness. All clanging cowbell and blistering wah-wah guitar, "Power to the Meek" and its rock resurgence balances the beauty of "Peace Is Just A Word," with Annie's voice at its most entrancing and a string section achieving a Moorish grandeur. "I Want It All," an ode to appetite for sheer, raw life, comes on downright dangerous, while the lovely descending-scale melody, muted horns and graceful tambourine of "I Saved the World Today" offer the pleasures of elegance and uplift.
