A true genius of the cello, full of joy and life, Jacqueline du Pré passed away on October 19, 1987 at the age of only 42 after many years fighting multiple sclerosis. This vinyl reissue is culled from the five LP boxset 5 Legendary Recordings which was released in November 2017 to mark the 30th anniversary of Jacqueline's passing and uses the 24-BIT/96kHz remastering made at Abbey Road in 2011 for the Japanese SACD version. It finds du Pré, performing with Daniel Barenboim, one of the conductors most closely associated with her career, and brings characteristic exuberance, passion and color to two cello concertos rooted in the 18th-century. In his memoir A Life in Music, Barenboim wrote: "I have never encountered anyone for whom music was such a natural form of expression as it was for Jacqueline...She had a capacity to imagine sound such as I never met in any other musician."
