Description

Jean-Michel Jarre's 1978 Sophomore Studio Album Equinoxe on LP.

Équinoxe is the 1978 album from electronic music pioneer, composer, performer and producer, Jean-Michel Jarre. The album follows Jarre’s groundbreaking 1976 album Oxygène and further establishes his unique style of synthesizer-based music, blending atmospheric soundscapes with rhythmic, melodic sequences.

Équinoxe explores the theme of the balance between nature and technology, symbolized by the concept of the equinox (the time of year when day and night are equal in length). Jarre sought to evoke the feeling of human interaction with natural elements, juxtaposed with the growing influence of machines and technology. Each track represents a different stage of the day, progressing from morning to night, reflecting the passage of time and its cyclical nature.

The album is entirely instrumental, composed and produced by Jarre. It features layered synthesizers, sequencers, and electronic drums, utilizing various state-of-the-art instruments of the time, including the ARP 2600, Eminent 310, and Mellotron. Jarre's use of synthesizers and sound effects creates a dynamic, immersive auditory experience.
