Jean-Michel Jarre's 1981 Studio Album Magnetic Fields on LP.
Released in 1981, Les Chants Magnétiques (Magnetic Fields) is a major album by artist, composer, performer and producer Jean-Michel Jarre, a pioneer of electronic music. An artistic and commercial success, it confirmed the artist's international status. This album marked a further exploration of electronic soundscapes, incorporating both Jarre's signature melodic style and a more rhythmic, experimental approach.
Magnetic Fields was inspired by the concept of geomagnetic fields and their invisible yet powerful energy. The album’s title alludes to this natural phenomenon, paralleling Jarre's fascination with electronic sound waves and their ability to influence listeners.
Jarre recorded Magnetic Fields using a variety of synthesizers and digital samplers, reflecting the technological advancements in electronic music production at the time. Unlike his previous albums, which primarily relied on analog synthesizers, Magnetic Fields saw the introduction of more sophisticated digital instruments, including the Fairlight CMI, one of the earliest digital sampling machines.
