Following up the pair of multifaceted career defining albums Blow By Blow and Wired, 1980's all instrumental There & Back was the only studio effort Jeff Beck released between 1976 and 1985 and it finds the iconic guitarist working with a pair of keyboadists in Jan Hammer (who plays on the first three flashy funk fusion tracks) and Tony Hymas (who offers a nice change of pace on the remaining five). Co-produced with Ken Scott (David Bowie), it may not be quite as dynamic as its holy grail predecessors but as usual Beck pushes the possibilities of his instrument with just the right amount of precision and grace.
