Formed in San Francisco in 1965 by vocalist Marty Balin as a blend of folk music and electric rock 'n' roll, Jefferson Airplane exceeded everyone's wildest dreams by rising to the absolute pinnacle of the pop music world by decade's end. Thanks to 1967 chart smashes "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love," brought to the band by new co-lead singer Grace Slick, and the rest of the classic Airplane lineup - singer/guitarist Paul Kantner, lead guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, bassist Jack Casady and drummer Spencer Dryden - the group will always be the centerpiece for any discussion of San Francisco's storied Summer of Love. In 1970 RCA Victor Records honored the acid rockers with their first greatest hits compilation, the platinum-certified The Worst Of The Jefferson Airplane. The 15 song collection represents the finest tracks from their first six albums including hit singles from the landmark efforts Surrealistic Pillow, Crown Of Creation and After Bathing At Baxter's.
