Two Original Albums Plus Bonus Tracks!

It would probably not be an overstatement to call Chega de Saudade the most influential Brazilian album of all time. Originally released in 1959, it's cited as creating bossa nova, so to say, and that it lit a fire in the music world would be putting it mildly. Almost every song on the album has gone on to become a standard, and Gilberto of course is a living legend. Here Gilberto collaborates with both Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, both icons in their own right.

Originally released in 1961, Joao Gilberto's historic first self-titled album is also one of the great cornerstones of bossa nova. Accompanied by Tom Jobim (who wrote such standards as "Garota de Ipanema" and "Desafinado") and organist Walter Wanderley (best known for his smooth Hammond playing and the 1966 hit "Summer Samba"), Gilberto plays songs like "Samba da minha terra" and "O amôr em paz," both of which would soon become standards of the genre as well.
