With its raw tone, inspired improvisations and hard hitting odd-metered rhythms, King Crimson's fifth full-length Larks' Tongues In Aspic (1973) is widely regarded as one of the band's truly great albums. The enterprising 6-track effort marked a radical departure for this most forward thinking of groups and was the first to include Bill Bruford (Yes) and John Wetton (Family) as band members. Most of the material on the album quickly became established as part of the band's live set with tracks like the title cut and "Talking Drum" often becoming the starting points/springboards for the improvisations integral to King Crimson's elastic performances. Effectively, Larks' Tongues In Aspic is the first part of a trilogy that also encompassed Starless and Bible Black (1974) and Red (1974), a body of work that still sounds remarkable over 45 years later!
