Loreena McKennitt's 2006 Live Album Nights From the Alhambra on 2LP.
Canadian artist Lorenna McKennitt has been typecast as a performer of soothing music, but she is much more than that. True, much of her music is ethereal and relaxing, but McKennitt is a true creative spirit, drawing inspiration from the poetry of Yeats, Blake and Tennyson. NIGHTS FROM THE ALHAMBRA was recorded live in 2006 at the Alhambra, a fortress on the eastern border of Granada, a city in southern Spain. On this set, she delves into the overlapping aspects of the folk music of the British Isles, Spain and North Africa, balancing yearning melodies with pulsating, swirling rhythms.
