1999 Country Opera Available on Vinyl for the First Time!
Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/producer Marty Stuart is living, breathing country-music history. He's played alongside the masters, from Johnny Cash to Lester Flatt; been a worldwide ambassador for Nashville, Bakersfield and points in between; and safeguarded country's most valuable traditions. The ambitious 1999 country opera The Pilgrim, one of the finest showcases of Stuart's songwriting and instrumental prowess, tells the true story of a man (The Pilgrim) from his hometown of Philadelphia, Mississippi. Featuring a stellar cross section of country/bluegrass legends including Emmylou Harris, Pam Tillis, George Jones, Ralph Stanley, Earl Scruggs and Johnny Cash, themes of infidelity, violence, alcoholism, church and family are touched on amidst interlinking instrumental passages and reprises of the title track. Stuart noted that, "I wanted this album to be a reflection of everything that caused me to fall in love with country music...it seems as if every note of music since Hillbilly Rock was merely dots to step on leading to this moment."
