Remastered and Reissued As Part of the Blue Note 75th Anniversary Vinyl Reissue Campaign
Volume 2 was originally issued in its 12" configuration in 1956 and comprises material Miles Davis recorded in three separate sessions from 1952–1954 at the height of his heroin addiction complete with a few alternate takes. One of the first releases in Blue Note's new 1500 series of 12" LPs, Volume 2 features two numbers recorded in May 1952 (J.J. Johnson - trombone, Jackie McLean - alto saxophone, Gil Coggins - piano, Oscar Pettiford - bass, Kenny Clarke - drums); three tracks from April 1953 (J. J. Johnson - trombone, Jimmy Heath - tenor saxophone, Gil Coggins - piano, Percy Heath - bass, Art Blakey - drums) and half a dozen cuts from March 1954 (Horace Silver - piano, Percy Heath - bass, Art Blakey - drums). A Blue Note essential, Miles Davis' Volume 2 is released here as part of the Blue Note 75th anniversary vinyl reissue campaign spearheaded by current President, Don Was.
