2021 Mono Vinyl LP Reissue!
Soul Brothers offers the rare opportunity to hear this meeting between jazz giant and vibes pioneer, Milt Jackson, and the godfather of R&B and one of the greatest musicians of all time, Ray Charles! Ironically, when this LP was released in 1958 it was Jackson, with his pioneering Modern Jazz Quartet, who was the more famous of the two men. A stunning collaboration, this is Ray's second "true" studio album for Atlantic, after The Great Ray Charles. While he released R&B singles for the pop market during his time with the label, he used his LPs to explore modern jazz. Here he is heard both on piano and alto sax. This mono edition lays bare the relaxed, bluesy, often-boppish jazz on display from these two giants. With stellar support, the two headliners treat this affair as a backroom woodshedding session. Jackson on the pairing, "No more of this MJQ Mozart Society shit. I'm gonna play the blues with Ray."
