Pere Ubu's 1979 Studio Album New Picnic Time on LP.
Initially released in 1979, ‘New Picnic Time’ is “weird, wonderful and so far beyond the expected that these deconstructions of popular music are as charmingly retro as the Beatles and as modern as today's blending’s of funk, hip-hop and alt-rock. Revolutionary and demented yet full of fun, Pere Ubu are indispensable to any collection of 20th century rock.” - Herald American, Scott Laurence
Pere Ubu emerged from the Cleveland proto-punk scene, with Thomas and Laughner previously part of the short-lived, influential band Rocket from the Tombs. They released their debut single "30 Seconds Over Tokyo" in 1975, which quickly established their distinctive sound. Their early work, including the debut album The Modern Dance (1978), is highly regarded for its innovative fusion of punk rock and electronic experimentation.
The band has undergone numerous lineup changes over the years, with David Thomas being the consistent member and driving force. Despite commercial challenges, Pere Ubu has maintained a dedicated cult following and critical acclaim. They are celebrated for their boundary-pushing music and influential role in the post-punk and alternative rock movements.
