Pere Ubu's 1982 Studio Album Song of the Bailing Man on LP.
Originally released in 1982, ‘Song of the Bailing Man’ is an ‘inspired, invigorating, confounding, disturbing… yeah, one hell of a swinging way to go. Still the futility Ubu must have felt making far sighted music in a chronically near-sighted world is pressed hard into these grooves. - Melody Maker, David Fricke
Pere Ubu emerged from the Cleveland proto-punk scene, with Thomas and Laughner previously part of the short-lived, influential band Rocket from the Tombs. They released their debut single "30 Seconds Over Tokyo" in 1975, which quickly established their distinctive sound. Their early work, including the debut album The Modern Dance (1978), is highly regarded for its innovative fusion of punk rock and electronic experimentation.
The band has undergone numerous lineup changes over the years, with David Thomas being the consistent member and driving force. Despite commercial challenges, Pere Ubu has maintained a dedicated cult following and critical acclaim. They are celebrated for their boundary-pushing music and influential role in the post-punk and alternative rock movements.
