Description

Pere Ubu's 1980 Studio Album The Art of Walking on LP.

Released in 1980, ‘The Art of Walking’ sees Pere Ubu ‘moving even further from the conventions of rock music - and from their own past - but still moving forward, without a doubt, and losing none of their integrity as a group.’ - Melody Maker, Chris Cutler

Pere Ubu emerged from the Cleveland proto-punk scene, with Thomas and Laughner previously part of the short-lived, influential band Rocket from the Tombs. They released their debut single "30 Seconds Over Tokyo" in 1975, which quickly established their distinctive sound. Their early work, including the debut album The Modern Dance (1978), is highly regarded for its innovative fusion of punk rock and electronic experimentation.

The band has undergone numerous lineup changes over the years, with David Thomas being the consistent member and driving force. Despite commercial challenges, Pere Ubu has maintained a dedicated cult following and critical acclaim. They are celebrated for their boundary-pushing music and influential role in the post-punk and alternative rock movements.
