Soundtrack to Alan Parker's 1984 Film Birdy Half Speed Remastered & Cut to Lacquers at 45rpm
Birdy is the music, composed by Peter Gabriel, for the 1984 Alan Parker film of the same name. This 180g 2LP release is half-speed remastered and cut to lacquers at 45rpm. The vinyl was cut by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering, mastered by Tony Cousins at Metropolis and overseen by Peter's main sound engineer Richard Chappell. The LP looks amazing with a gatefold sleeve utilizing imagery from the original LP plus additional images from the film. Plain white inner bags are also included. All images are newly re-scanned. The vinyl LP album also contains a download card with a choice of digital download (Hi-Res 24bit/96k or 16bit/44.1k).
Recorded between October and December 1984 and originally released in 1985, Birdy marks the first occasion that Peter worked with French-Canadian producer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Lanois who was fresh from working on The Unforgettable Fire with U2. Lanois went on to co-produce the So and US albums with Peter. Birdy tells the tale of a Vietnam vet who harbors Icarus-like ambitions to fly and finds Peter flexing his creative muscles free of any commercial pressures.
"When I had an invitation from Alan Parker to work on ‘Birdy' that was very exciting for me. Both he and Scorsese, who I worked with on ‘The Last Temptation of Christ', are musical directors who really care and feel the music they work with...'Birdy' is not a very well known film, but I think it is very strong and has some great performances from Matthew Modine and Nicholas Cage, who's obviously very well known now but wasn't then. But it's quite claustrophobic at times and very atmospheric and so it was a great opportunity to work with different textures and moods." - Peter Gabriel
