Scarface The World Is Yours on 2LP
1993's The World Is Yours is the second solo effort from Houston hip hop artist and Geto Boys member Scarface and follow-up to his acclaimed 1991 solo debut Mr. Scarface Is Back. The album's title was taken from a line in the 1983 Brian De Palma film Scarface from which the rapper also got his name.
Issued on Houston gangsta/southern rap label Rap-A-Lot Records and largely produced by N.O. Joe, The World Is Yours broke into the Billboard 200 and peaked at #1 on the R&B/Hip Hop album chart. Includes samples of the Ohio Players, Bill Withers and Prince and features the successful single "Let Me Roll" and introspective 7-minute plus "Now I Feel Ya."
"His first two solo albums were huge sellers down South, uncompromising barrages of foul-mouthed nastiness and the all-too-real-feeling horrors of Houston street life. He rhymed in a baritone; steady, relentless, all cowboy-boot tough and black-hat bad. He was about as bad as anyone’s ever sounded on the mic, in the full panoply of meaning that that term carries. Fast and furious over straight-up-and-down boom-bap beats, slow and sinister over soul-sample funk." - Dave Bry, Complex / The 10 Best Rappers of the '90s
