Along with Mecca & The Soul Brother and Stunts, Blunts & Hip-Hop, Showbiz & A.G.'s classic debut album Runaway Slave was one of a string of records that made 1992 a seminal year for hip-hop. Home to the successful singles "Bounce ta This" and "Fat Pockets," Showbiz & A.G. took the grit of New York's streets and laid them over jazzy beats supplied by Showbiz himself, with an assist from Diamond D. The album also features steady bars from a young A.G with contributions from Big L and Lord Finesse which cemented Showbiz and A.G.'s place in the hip-hop canon. "The title of Showbiz & AG's underacknowledged debut LP has an unmistakably strong message, even if most of the songs focus more on straight-ahead boom-bap than sociopolitical bomb-throwing," writes Complex. "But throughout the album, the Bronx duo raps about urban oppression and dreams of escape."
