Original Album Plus Bonus Track!
Considered one of the great young pianists of the mid-to-late 1950s, Sonny Clark was practically the house pianist at Blue Note during 1957-62 before his tragic early death in 1963 at just 31. The pianist/leader sounds very much at home on this 1957 trio set for the label with bassist Paul Chambers and drummer "Philly" Joe Jones. Sticking to bop standards, Clark essentially plays his version of Bud Powell, carving out his own approach to the influential style. This 180g vinyl LP reissue from Vinyl Passion adds the 10-minute plus bonus track "Blue Minor" recorded a year later in 1958 with Art Farmer (trumpet) and Jackie McLean (alto saxophone) joining the proceedings.
