Saxophonist Sonny Rollins is hands down one of the most important jazz instrumentalists of all-time and his 1956 hard bob Prestige release Plus 4 stands as one of his high-water marks. The Plus 4 in support of Rollins' daring tenor saxophone work here is the Clifford Brown/Max Roach Quintet, of which he was a member at the time, including Clifford Brown (trumpet), Richie Powell (piano), George Morrow (bass) and Max Roach (drums). Song selections include such groundbreaking Rollins originals as "Valse Hot" and "Pent-Up House" and well executed standards like "I Feel A Song Coming On" and "Count Your Blessings." Plus 4 would also serve as the last full recordings for both Powell and Brown as they perished in a car accident just three months later. This 180g LP reissue from Vinyl Lovers comes complete with the bonus track "The Scene Is Clean."
