Steely Dan Gaucho on UHQR 200g 45RPM Clarity Vinyl 2LP from Analogue Productions: Mastered by Bernie Grundman from a 1980 Analog Tape Copy Originally EQ'd by Bob Ludwig and Pressed at QRP
Steely Dan's final album for MCA, and last for 20 years, 1980's brilliant Gaucho, took home the Grammy Award for Best Engineered Non-Classical Recording. The record has all the Steely Dan trademarks: impeccable production, cynical and venomous lyrics and undeniably catchy songs. "Babylon Sisters" opens the album with silky aplomb and it's wonderfully anchored by the classics "Hey Nineteen" and "Time Out Of Mind," featuring Mark Knopfler on guitar. Rolling Stone proclaimed, "Steely Dan have perfected the aesthetic of the tease. Their sound is as slippery as their (lyrical) irony."
Mastered by Bernie Grundman from a 1980 analog tape copy originally EQ'd by Bob Ludwig (there's no evidence the original tapes containing the flat mixes of Gaucho were delivered to the record label and it's presumed the tapes no longer exist), this 45RPM UHQR version is pressed at Quality Record Pressings on 200-gram Clarity Vinyl and packaged in a deluxe box with a booklet detailing the entire process of making a UHQR along with a certificate of inspection. Each UHQR is pressed with attention paid to every single detail of every single record. From the lead-in groove to the run-out groove, there is no pitch to the profile, allowing the customer's stylus to play truly perpendicular to the grooves from edge to center.
