The Dave Brubeck Trio Featuring Gerry Mulligan Blues Roots on 180g Import LP
Remastered by Ray Staff at Air Mastering at Air Mastering in Lyndhurst Hall, London
True to its title, 1968's Blues Roots is a blues-based recording yet leader/pianist Dave Brubeck, baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan, bassist Jack Six and drummer Alan Dawson also offer up an assortment of rhythms and changing tempos plus remarkable soloing from all involved to keep things fresh and rewarding. "Journey" is a beautiful piano ballad, while "Blues Roots" narrowly rises above in it's epic scope, and over-the-top ending. "Broke Blues" and "Cross Ties" are equally as progressive, drawing as much from post bop as blues and traditional jazz, even pushing toward the avante-garde.
