Jimmy Cliff's status as one of reggae's greats has never been in dispute by those that love the music, yet his achievements as a recording artist have been somewhat overshadowed by his film appearances. In 1972 he starred as renegade Kingston singer and modern day Robin Hood Ivanhoe Martin in Perry Henzell's classic reggae film, The Harder They Come. The seminal soundtrack album which included a clutch of Cliff's own compositions including the immortal "Too Many Rivers To Cross" did much to advance the cause of reggae in America, and besides Cliff also features stellar material from Toots and the Maytals, Desmond Dekker, The Melodians and The Slickers.
