Sixth Studio Effort Balances Manchester and Bruce Springsteen Influences with An Array of Guest Collaborators including Lindsey Buckingham, k.d. lang, Weyes Blood, Adam Granduciel, Blake Mills & Lucius!
Imploding the Mirage is The Killers highly anticipated sixth studio album. Following-up 2017's Wonderful, Wonderful, the new LP was produced by the band in conjunction with Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado of Foxygen and recorded in Los Angeles, CA and Park City, UT. It's the first album of their career to be created outside of their hometown of Las Vegas, NV. The Killers describe Imploding The Mirage as "the light after the dark; the overcoming of sadness and moving into celebration. It's a record about eternal love, perseverance through hard times, and the strength gained from friendships and familial bonds whilst weathering a storm."
In an interview with Q magazine, frontman Brandon Flowers said that the sound of the album, "Somehow captures Manchester and Bruce Springsteen. I think that's when we're at our best, when we're able to take these different elements and make them work." Lead single, "Caution" features former Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham and finds Flowers singing "I'm throwing caution" over soaring synths and reverb-heavy drums. On the quirky, funky fellow track, "Fire in Bone" Flowers lists off things that feel ‘Fire in Bone': from feeling "empty," "wrung-out," "unseen" and "preyed upon," to feeling "big time" and "major league." It hones in on the need to appreciate those that are there to pick up the pieces, which seems particularly crucial in these times.
Imploding The Mirage also features a brilliant array of collaborators, another first for the band who have typically kept guest spots on their albums to a minimum. The list of featured artists includes Lindsey Buckingham, k.d. lang, Weyes Blood, Adam Granduciel (War On Drugs), Blake Mills, and Lucius.
