Fronted by vocalist/guitarist Luke Pritchard and guitarist Hugh Harris, Brit-pop outfit The Kooks formed at Brighton Music College in 2004. Realizing they shared similar tastes, the group took their name from a song on David Bowie's Hunky Dory and recorded a demo tape that, along with a handful of gigs, soon gathered interest from several record labels. Merely four months after their formation, the group signed with Virgin Records. The Kooks recorded their fully formed Tony Hoffer-produced debut, Inside In/Inside Out, in 2005, which they released to acclaim early the following year. Debuting at No. 9 on the U.K. charts, the album climbed to the No. 2 spot as single "You Don't Love Me" reached No. 12, and follow-ups "Naïve" and "She Moves in Her Own Way" cracked the U.K. Top 10. The trio of hits helped Inside In/Inside Out achieve quadruple-platinum status in the U.K. and the band a rabid fanbase worldwide.
